Overview

Whatever time of year you head for Scampston Walled Garden, you won't be disappointed. In April and May the delicate pale pink spring blossoms are simply lovely, in summer the unusual perennial meadow is ablaze with violets and purples and in September the autumn borders attract the crowds. It's worth a trip too if you're into discovering less common plants – the plant sale area specialises in unusual specimens, many of which are found around the gardens. Whilst you are at Scampston take a look around the heritage-themed exhibitions in the newly restored Victorian conservatory at the heart of the garden. The Garden restaurant, with its stylish glass front overlooking the sun terrace and garden views beyond, serves lunches using ingredients grown in the gardens or locally sourced. Don't miss the mile-long Cascade Circuit, ideal for tranquil strolls and leading to the pretty Palladian Bridge, old Ice House and Cascade along the way. The Park, designed by landscaping hero Capability Brown, is another wonderful aspect of the attraction, with stunning views to boot.

Very enjoyable visit to Scampston Hall. The initial greeting by the current owner was welcoming, followed by an excellent tour with the guides. It was so interesting to learn about the many items on display and still in use, paintings, furniture, glassware and porcelain. All questions about the Hall and grounds were answered, giving a delightful insight into the history of a beautiful and historic home.

Had a really enjoyable visit to Scampston today. The gardens and grounds are so lovely with some beautiful flowers and plants. The weather was gorgeous too! We had a lovely lunch in the cafe and it is so great to have a freshly made sandwich instead on one out of a packet! The cakes looked fantastic and I can report to ice cream was delicious!

I love this garden, I always try and visit when in Scarborough. I have visited since its first week of opening and the gardens just get better. The new glass house and exhibition was a nice addition this time round. The cafe is always excellent and didn't disappoint this visit. Will come again and again....

We dropped into the gardens in late October. they still looked amazing, even with the majority of the flowers being well past their best. the designer really makes you appreciate grass as an architectural feature. There was also a walk from the gardens into a Capability Brown landscape.
