Overview

Woodlands Farm is an award-winning B&B. It is rated 5 Stars by the AA (Gold Award) and in 2019, they won 'AA Friendliest B&B of the Year' in recognition for the quality of their accommodation and their friendly and professional hospitality. Woodlands Farm is no longer a working farm but the guest accommodation is in converted stables and Guests can meet the resident ponies in the stableyard. Set in the stunning and peaceful countryside on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in the hamlet of Thimbleby, Woodlands Farm is the perfect Countryside retreat for exploring the Moors and North Yorkshire. 

What makes a stay at Woodlands Farm unique?

Woodlands Farm is the perfect Countryside retreat if you're looking to stay in an unspoilt and less crowded area of North Yorkshire but with great access to local attractions and beauty spots.  They believe in supporting local independent businesses, not just the provenance of the food they serve, but they have furnished their Guest rooms with beautifully crafted English oak furniture made by local craftsmen from two small family owned businesses near Thirsk - Beaver Furniture and Robert Thompson's Mouseman.  Each piece of furniture has a signature mini Beaver or Mouse carved into the furniture.

The Guest rooms are in converted stables and have there own Private entrance with ensuite facilities. The Middleton Suite is the self-catering Suite which is in the annexe to the main farmhouse and is suitable for families, with views of the stableyard.

Woodlands Farm has a great reputation for serving an award-winning breakfast and Amy takes particular care in supporting good quality, local producers when sourcing her produce.

Woodlands Farm was awarded a Silver Award by Green Tourism for their commitment to the environment and sustainable Tourism.  They have electric & Tesla car chargers available for overnight charging.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Woodlands Farm?

All the Guest rooms at Woodlands Farm are furnished to the highest standard and have a Country feel to the decor which is in keeping with the immediate surroundings but with the benefits of all the modern conveniences - mini fridge, radio, TV/DVD and hospitality tray with Coffee Machine and Kettle.  Woodlands Farm has 2 double en-suite Guest Rooms (The Hurworth & The Bedale) and 2 Family Suites or prefect for couples looking for more living space (The Ainsty & The Middleton). The Ainsty Suite is suitable for families with small children with a kitchenette and open plan living area including a sofa bed. The Middleton Suite is fully self-catering, suitable for families and is in the annexe to the main farmhouse.

Woodlands Farm is set in 10 acres and Guests can enjoy sitting outside in the garden or view the sunset from the swing in the orchard.  Each guest room has its own outdoor seating with table perfect for sharing a bottle of wine from the in-house wine list and stargazing in the dark skies.

All rooms are ground level but access is via a single step up into the accommodation.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the North Yorkshire area?

Woodlands Farm is conveniently located on the western edge of the North York Moors National Park, only a short drive from the A19 with easy access to the historic City of York or the nearby Market Towns of Thirsk and Northallerton.

For keen walkers and cyclists the Cleveland Way National Trail is nearby and there are plenty of walks for all levels whether you are interested in a level walk around Cod Beck Reservoir or up on the Moors to view the pretty moorland heather in full bloom during August and September. Mount Grace Priory which is owned by the National Trust is only 4 miles away and other historic sites such as Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle are also in the North York Moors National Park. Harry Potter fans and train enthusiasts might be interested in taking a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway or if you like the seaside it is worth a visit to the fishing villages and coastal towns on the Yorkshire Coast which are only an hours drive from Woodlands Farm.

Because Woodlands Farm is located on the Western edge of the North York Moors many Guest make the most of this location to also visit the Yorkshire Dales which is only a 25 minute drive via Bedale. So if you would like to visit the two National Parks in Yorkshire, Woodlands Farm is in a great location.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Woodlands Farm has been awarded the coveted AA Breakfast Award commending them for the variety and quality of their breakfast offering.  Breakfast is usually served in the main farmhouse and Guests can enjoy dishes such as a full Yorkshire Breakfast or homemade American pancakes with a berry compote. There is plenty of variety and dietaries/allergies can be catered for if they are notified in advance.

Guests can prebook a Yorkshire Afternoon Tea in advance of their stay as well as Yorkshire Platters of Cold Meats and Cheese as well as a separate Yorkshire Cheeseboard which is perfect for enjoying on an evening.

Alternatively, there are three pubs in the next village of Osmotherley and a fish & chip shop (please check opening times).  The Michelin starred restaurant, The Black Swan at Oldstead is a 25 minute drive away.

Other Information

In the Autumn 2019, Woodlands Farm launched their My Kitchen Cookery Experiences which will run from the Autumn to Spring each year and must be booked in advance of your stay. Woodlands Farm is owned by Paul and Amy Callin, and the Cookery Experiences are led by Amy who used to be a Senior Chef Tutor at Bettys Cookery School in Harrogate and trained and worked as a Chef in London. Amy's Yorkshire Afternoon Tea's, Yorkshire Platters and Cheeseboards are popular with Guests and must be booked in advance. Woodlands Farm is a licensed premises and offers an extensive wine and Yorkshire Beer list.
