A unique Tudor manor is steeped in history, the birthplace of As You Like It, Shakespeare's beloved play about romantic love and the recovery of harmony. The ancient manor of Soulton was the Renaissance headquarters of the beloved sixteenth-century statesman 'Old' Sir Rowland Hill.
The surrounding ancient Soulton Wood is famous for its bluebells and is considered the very landscape that inspired the play's Forest of Arden. The Hall itself was constructed in a complex Renaissance code between 1556 and 1560, designed by Sir Rowland Hill to resist oppression and usher in the Elizabethan Golden Age.
The comfortable and spacious rooms are named after families connected to Soulton Hall's thousand-year history. Each has its own character with antique furniture and many architectural features, including original details dating back to the 1500s. Across the lawn, the Carriage House has been transformed and offers charming ground-floor accommodation. Soulton Hall retains its traditional hospitality in an atmosphere that is elegant yet richly evocative of its incredible past.
