Despite the name suggesting this is simply the site of a commemorative statue, there's a whole lot more going on here. Just outside the historic town of Stirling, the National Wallace Monument holds a constantly changing series of events and exhibitions educating visitors on the life and battles of the epic William Wallace. Listen in on his trial, get a good look at his legendary battle sword and take a walk around the Hall of Heroes. The site also talks you through the building of the site (which, by the way, has breath-taking views across the Scottish countryside) and there's a lovely picnic spot and coffee shop. Check the official website for regular live presentations by actors plus quizzes and games laid on for the kids.
