Learn all about the animals of Blackpool Zoo
A vast 32 acres spreads out before you and you can hear the weird and wonderful calls of the lions and monkeys before you've even got through reception. In all, there are more than 1500 animals and there are some superb little walk-through enclosures which mean you can get up close and personal with all manner of species. Go chat with the residents in Lemur Wood (they are not worried in the slightest about you walking through their homes) or head off to meet Marcella and Indra the giraffes, rescued from a bankrupt circus and now happy at the zoo. Get a snap of impressive silverback Bukavu and his family on Gorilla Mountain, with its rocks, waterfalls and caves, or make some new friends on the Wallaby Walkabout.
