Arundel Castle & Gardens
Loved by locals and tourists alike, Arundel Castle holds a special place in the heart of England (it's been a visitor attraction for 200 years) and it's all the more special since it is still lived in to this day. The site's history dates back almost 1,000 years when a motte was built in 1068 and the subsequent buildings that have been added to the site have been home to the Dukes of Norfolk and their descendants for 850 years. As you might expect, the place is groaning with priceless antiques, portraits and furniture and it's a real treat to let the knowledgeable guides walk you around such a richly historic spot, pointing out a Van Dyck here, a Reynolds there and Gainsborough just beyond. Don't visit without taking a stroll through the restored Victorian Gardens. There's a full programme of historic events throughout the season. Please refer to website for full details.
