The Bull & Swan at Burghley

Once upon a time there was a drinking club at Burghley House. Founded in 1684 it was called The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam, and it had an eclectic bunch of members: The Baptist Earl of Gainsborough was known as Greyhound and The Hon Charles Bertie was The Stag amongst other nefarious characters. We are not sure who The Bull (rumoured to be The Hon Charles Cecil) and The Swan were and nor are we sure that the club dined at this historic Stamford Public House....but it is highly likely they did. We hope we compliment this history with fantastic food and drink. A plethora of great, local ales, a diverse but un-stuffy wine list and a dedicated yet relaxed team all add to what we hope will be a perfect visit to the pub! Choose to sit in the traditional bar, the ‘Bedlam’ dining room or weather permitting the secluded courtyard. We serve the same menu for lunch and supper so there’s no excuse not to visit. PS Sorry - forgot to say that we have the best kept secret in Stamford –amazing bedrooms....7 of them....incredibly comfortable....great size...showers and baths and rather good value.
