New Inn Hotel

New Inn Hotel

High Street, Clovelly, Bideford, Devon, EX39 5TQ

This 17th century hotel is set in the heart of one of England’s loveliest locations, where the only ‘traffic sounds’ you will hear are footsteps or donkeys’ hooves upon the ancient cobbled street. The eight comfortable en-suite rooms, decorated in the style of the fabled William Morris, enjoy different views of the village, and all but one have sea glimpses too. The New Inn specialises in traditional English cooking at its best, using fresh local produce. Clovelly is a truly unique and timeless fishing village, where the steep, cobbled street tumbles down past 400 year old cottages covered in flowers to the ancient harbour. Glorious walks and breathtaking views, fascinating history and traditional crafts are a few of Clovelly’s attractions while others lie hidden down tiny winding side alleys just waiting to be discovered. Luggage is portered to the New Inn by sledge from the car park.

New Inn Hotel is part of the following Travel Ideas:

Great pet friendly hotels in the UK by Adrian Mourby

"It’s not surprising that Clovelly’s New Inn is pet friendly. Clovelly is very a four-legged village. Donkeys do the daily deliveries to this pub set on a steep street above the harbour. This tiny Devon fishing port saw its population decline from over 600 in 1901 to around 400 a century later and even today the streets are too steep for cars, which means that there is no better way to get luggage and supplies to the New Inn than on a donkey sled. Dogs are welcome at this eight-room hotel but it’s advisable to ring ahead to check your canine requirements."

Lovely stay:
Stayed for two-night anniversary break. Loved the hotel although the hill can be a challenge, especially after the massive breakfast they give you. Food was good and tasted homemade. Have booked to return !!

Two night at a very friendly hotel. Our room no 7 was very clean and well fitted. Great food during our two-night stay. We were a group of eight and all of us enjoyed our stay. A special thank to the barman.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. We were not disappointed, it was a charming b&b and full of the history of Clovelly. It has been kept in keeping with the village. Parking is situated up at the visitor centre and you simply let them know there that you are staying at the New Inn which includes your fee for visiting the village. We were lucky to have an adjoining balcony which was fabulous as we could look down on the cobbled street and picturesque village. We decided to do a tour with Jana who was very passionate about the village and gave us a wonderful tour. We would definitely recommend the New Inn as a place to stay.

My travelling friends and I stayed at the New Inn. My wife and I visited the hotel forty-four years ago. Clovelly and the New Inn really hadn't changed. The rooms are still comfortable, the bathrooms updated. The Inn and the town of Clovelly were truly made for each other.

Half way up (or down) the pedestrian-only Clovelly hill stands the New Inn. We stayed in a room with a delightful balcony and were blessed by weather that allowed us to sit out with the tea we had made with the room facilities. The room was on the small side but full of character, especially with the small patio door open and the muslin curtains stirring in the breeze. A roomy bathroom and large bath were en-suite. The breakfast was excellent (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) and was served in a light and gracious room with a high beamed ceiling. A good walking and short break venue.
Stayed April 2017, travelled as a couple.
