The Gothic House Cottage is located directly across the street from the imposing Church of St Peter and St Paul in Clare, which is located in the Upper Stour Valley. The cottage has an open and airy living space with a large dining kitchen and garden room with floor to ceiling windows that provide lovely views of the extensive garden at the back. When the night falls, gather around the electric, living flame stove in the sitting room. Outside, a small, enclosed garden and courtyard provide access to a shed for storing bicycles if you want to explore the local countryside on two wheels, as well as use of a larger garden beyond. By arrangement with the homeowners, the outdoor, heated swimming pool is open from mid-May to the end of August. There is also a grass tennis court, which, while not Wimbledon championship standard, is available for guests to use and enjoy.

Long Melford, another great Medieval Suffolk cloth town, has a main street buzzing with independent shops, galleries, and restaurants, as well as two manor houses and the magnificent Trinity Church. Newmarket Races, the home of horse racing, can be found to the north-west.

Venturing further afield to Long Melford, choose from The Black Lion offering a menu of carefully curated dishes with a focus on regional produce and the dining experience at the Long Melford Swan is often described as exquisite. For a light-bite at lunch time, the Long Melford Tea Room comes highly recommended.
