The Nut Tree, Main Street, Murcott, Oxfordshire

Mike and Imogen North have turned this 16th century thatched bolt hole into one of Britain’s most prized gastropubs. Mike produces modern British cuisine such as pan fried terrine of pigs head and black pudding or a torte of braised Oxfordshire lamb shoulder. The menu often features their own rare breed cows and pigs, which roam the pub’s extensive grounds. An acre is dedicated to growing fruit and vegetables and a defunct drinks fridge has morphed into a smoker for the kitchen. Imogen oversees the white washed dining room, with its open conservatory and patio. Low beamed ceilings, brick fireplaces and the collection of local ales remind you The Nut Tree is at heart an old fashioned country pub, albeit one with an inventive, modern menu to wow.
