The Hop Pole is heartily proud of its pub roots, with a pared down, dark-panelled interior leading through to a glorious vine covered beer garden. Homemade bar snacks are served alongside starters or light bites such as half a pint of prawns with aioli or lamb sausage roll with salsa verde. Move on to the standard pub classics or try the more adventurous pigeon breast with bacon, black pudding, beetroot, mixed leaves and blackberry vinaigrette or braised beef bourguignon and bone marrow sauce. Unpretentious, verging on irreverent touches such as the offer of curry sauce with your chips for an extra 50p give an indication of the swagger here. Beer is supplied by the Hop Pole's proprietors, Bath Ales micro-brewery, which seems a suitable accompaniment to the macho menu.
