There's a thoroughly British pedigree to the menu at this smart gastropub. North East culinary legend Terry Laybourne, whose other establishments include Cafe 21 in Newcastle is the brains behind the operation that offers two dining options. The list of extremely tempting bar snacks includes the familiar scotch egg and hand raised pork pie along side more adventurous offerings such as deep fried monkfish cheeks and deep fried pig's ears. In the smart but comfortable upstairs dining room, kitted out with button back red leather banquettes, scrubbed wood floor and wooden tables and chairs, there's something for every palette from a salad of Mrs. Kirkham’s cheese, bacon and chilli beetroot to a mutton masala. Beer lovers will appreciate the list of ales from the nearby Wylam Brewery and a range of bottled beers from across Europe.
