Stravaigin takes its name from the ancient Scots word stravaig meaning to wander idly. But that's no reason not to tarry a while in the smart bare wooden-floored, contemporary dining room. Guests are encouraged to take their time while they look at the menu perhaps while enjoying a small bottle of sherry or cava. The menu utilises local ingredients to produce stylishly presented dishes such as the award winning haggis, mashed neeps and champit tatties (which can be served as a starter or a main course). Other dishes could include Jerusalem artichoke and Arbroath smokie arrancini served with pea puree and bacon crisps to start followed by slow cooked lamb shoulder with parsnip dauphinoise, shallot puree and salsa verde. Tempting desserts could include a Belgian chocolate cushion with milk and honey ice cream and pistachio sabayon.

Review of Stravaigin

Posted on by SarahType of travel: Friends

I have been to Stravaigin countless times and it's a great neighbourhood bistro. The food is delicious, décor is beautiful, service is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. A lovely place to chill out for a few hours. On those rare occasions when the weather is good, it's a really nice place to sit outside and people watch too. Beware you may struggle to get a table at the weekends though!
