Nestling between a hairdresser and a corner shop, the Mustard and Punch is an unassuming but smart venue whose dark red walls and gleaming wood create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Richard Dunn, chef proprietor, runs a kitchen that places great importance on sourcing local ingredients and using the skills of the local artisan producers. The modern British cooking is imaginative and well executed offering such starters as Yorkshire black pudding, home made baked beans and red wine sauce or slow braised pork cheeks, parsnip mash and warm apple sauce maybe to be followed by a main course of pan fried halibut, creamed potato puree and mussel velouté. A small eclectic wine list provides good options from the old and new world.
