Just “down the road from my mum and dad”, according to the celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, this outlet of his Italian casual dining chain is set in the splendour of the grade-two-listed Guildhall. With characterful period features fitting in with the funky Jamie Oliver stylings, this site has something of a destination feel. Food is, as Oliver describes it, “driven by what you’d find normal people over in Italy eating” – so plenty of antipasti, flavoured breads, pasta and Mediterranean produce. Sharer ‘planks’ of seasonal cured meats come strewn with hams, salami, cheese, olives, pistachio mortadella and soft, melty San Daniele prosciutto. Specialist British producers are also cited, with English wild boar salami from the Cotswolds sitting alongside Italian classics like wild truffle tagliatelle.
