Described by Allan Brown in the Sunday Times as a “charming, Tolkien-type place”, The Crinan hotel is a family-run business that lies where the Crinan Canal connects Loch Fyne to the Atlantic Ocean. Run by Nick Ryan and his wife for the past 40 years, it has garnered a reputation for its stunning location and fresh seafood. The hotel’s Westward Restaurant boasts views over Jura, Scarba and the mountains of Mull and looks out across Loch Crinan – giving a visual context to the fiercely local food. The chefs use local, organic produce including beef and lamb from nearby farms, venison from Jura and halibut, turbot from the islands and seafood such as clams, white fish and lobster is landed within close proximity. Dishes include pan fried mackerel, ravioli of Loch Etive mussels and chive velouté.
