A thoroughly refurbished 16th century hostelry, close to a “beck” or stream, is now home to this fine gastropub. Browsing the newspapers on a comfortable sofa or taking a drink while checking out the menu in the bar are de rigueur in this relaxed establishment that serves food all day long. The homely and unpretentious interior belies the subtlety of the modern European cuisine on offer. Starters include cauliflower pannacotta with smoked salmon and avruga caviar or a confit of belly pork with a parsnip and mustard seed puree, while mains offer such dishes as fillet of sea bass on herb linguine or herb crusted lamb with mash, garlic and roasted tomatoes. Desserts include a damson and sloe gin posset whilst a very good wine list offers thirst quenching refreshment.
