Housed in a refurbished life boat house on the harbour with a fish friendly menu, there’s no doubting Alba’s sea-faring credentials. The entirely glass front of the two-storey building provides excellent views of St Ives’ Bay and the bustling front, while even landlubbers will appreciate the choice of seafood on the menu. River Exe mussels, Provencal fish soup and crab ravioli vie for attention among the starters or cut directly to mains such as sea bass with clam and sweet corn chowder or Dover sole with chanterelle mushroom and shrimp butter sauce. Good value two- and three-course set menus are available at lunch and early evening and the keenly priced wine list has been chosen with care. There are several house wines and over 20 by the glass.
