Wheeler's Oyster Bar

It’s difficult to miss this 150 year old oyster bar’s cheerfully painted frontage on Whitstable’s high street. Take a seat in the intimate and cosy “parlour” and feast on a dozen Whitstable rocky oysters from the seafood bar. The main menu might include starters such as marinated jumbo prawns skewered with cous cous and sauce vierge or a bowl of steamed mussels in a creamed leek and cider sauce. Main courses such as pot roasted halibut with citrus and crab hollandaise and sweet potato and coriander mash or local smoked haddock with creamy mustard broth, poached egg and tumeric flavoured potatoes show imagination and verve. The restaurant are so happy for customers to bring their own wine that they don’t even charge corkage.
