Vennells, named after owners Jon and Laura has been highly praised by the critics since opening in 2005. The intimate, thirty cover restaurant is tastefully decked out in beige and white. Jon Vennell’s cooking is traditional yet modern. Buy a main course such as beef fillet, oxtail and red wine sauce or duck breast and leg on a potato cake with shallot and port sauce and get a starter such as crab salad with spinach; foie gras with sweetcorn pancake and fried egg or a roast quail with artichoke and passion fruit dressing included in the price. Desserts are extra and may include vanilla and grand marnier panna cotta, lemon sorbet and vanilla tuile or warm chocolate fondant with peanut butter ice cream.
