The Trouble House
Hauntings and civil war disturbances gave this 18th century inn its name. The trouble seems to have stopped since husband and wife team Martin and Neringa Caws took over in 2007. With its tounge and groove walls and wooden tables and chairs, this is the quintessential modern gastropub. Chef Martin Caws experiences at top London restaurants such as The Mirabelle and Pied a Terre are reflected in a menu of accomplished dishes including classic starters of foie gras and chicken livers, pickled grapes and toasted brioche and red mullet soup. A main course of Gloucestershire old spot pork belly, Scottish langoustine scampi, langoustine sauce and shitake mushroom risotto proves the chef not afraid to experiment.
