This rural pub with its quarry-tiled floor, exposed beams and open fireplace is home to the prodigious talents of chef Stephen Terry. After a career in top London restaurants where he was known for his cutting edge cookery, Terry has settled into a more traditional style here. Admittedly you might find monkfish served with chicken cream sauce, but for the main part dishes are straightforward and might include anything from leek and potato soup to grilled ribeye of beef with roast tomato, field mushroom, triple cooked chips and béarnaise sauce. Mediterranean influences come through in dishes such as wild sea bass, roast red peppers, black olives and basil with a crispy polenta crouton and pancetta salad.
