Ruth Watson, ex-Hotel Inspector and now presenter of C4's Country House Rescue, is the co-owner of this 16th century hostelry. But don’t worry, it’s the lighter side of the renowned chef and food writer that comes through here. There’s a real commitment to delivering local seasonal produce on the regularly changing menu that might include generously proportioned dishes such as Orford-smoked trout, new potato and beetroot salad; roast Suffolk guinea fowl with butternut squash and saffron risotto and rump of Suffolk lamb with rosemary mash and creamy broad bean sauce. There’s a terrace for al fresco drinks and lunches in the summer and 19 luxurious rooms if you want to stay over and work off your dinner with brisk stroll along the coast the following day.
