The New Angel
Overlooking Dartmouth’s picturesque harbour, what else could this busy two storey restaurant specialise in but seafood. Celebrity chef John Burton Race has eschewed the complex style of cooking that has won him numerous accolades over the years to concentrate on celebrating the best local produce. So there’s Dartmouth crab salad served with pink grapefruit and avocado, grilled spiced fillets of local mackerel and Torbay brill with béarnaise sauce. Meat doesn’t get overlooked with Devon beef with red wine sauce or a roasted chump of Blackawton lamb with braised shoulder and white wine sauce. There’s a cookery school on site and the chance to have the chef himself cook for you personally at the restaurant's “Top Table”.
