Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa

Don your best bib and tucker (no trainers are allowed) to blend in with the very smart shades-of-beige dining room that looks out over the hotel’s 500 acres of parkland. This 18th century Palladian mansion on the outskirts Bath is home to the undoubted skills of chef Hywel Jones who made his name working in some of London’s best restaurants. There’s complexity and attention to detail in a starter of caramelised veal sweet breads and langoustines. The upmarket surf’n’turf combination is given earthy depth by a lasagne of cep mushrooms and Sauternes and rosemary foam. Main courses highlight local produce such as roast loin of Wiltshire lamb served with a cannelloni of the slow roast shoulder and young artichokes.
