During its twenty year history this small immaculately run Victorian hotel with gardens has increased its kitchen brigade from just one chef to nine. But despite the extra manpower, the emphasis remains on local and organic ingredients of exceptional quality. Take you pick of four stylish and individually designed dining rooms in which to enjoy dishes such as Herdwick lamb with shallot puree, Grizedale venison with a cinnamon sauce, Scottish monkfish with a crab and lemongrass bisque or French quail with morel mushrooms. Local Directions:	Leave the M6 at junction 36. Take the A590 dual carriageway, which becomes the A591, following signs for ´South Lakes´. At the roundabout just north of Kendal, take the first exit - which is the B5284, signposted ´Hawkshead via Ferry and Crook´. Gilpin Lodge is five miles along there on the right hand side, clearly signposted on the road.
