Although it feels like you're in splendid Lake District isolation, in fact you're just a ten minute taxi ride from the hotels of Ambleside and Grasmere. High backed leather chairs and linen covered tables make for a smart but inviting main dining room where you can enjoy a crisp skinned, meltingly tender leg of duck served with prosciutto, quince and rhubarb salad or a beautifully presented fillet of beef with wild mushrooms, nutmeg and spinach. Get to know the locals over a pint of Westmoreland Gold ale from the restaurant's own brewery in the cosy bar.

| Local Directions: | Leave the M6 at Exit 36, South Lakes turn off, take the A590/A591 bypassing Kendal and Windermere, towards Ambleside. At Waterhead traffic lights, turn left onto the A593 for about a mile, this will take you around the head of the lake. At Ambleside Rugby Club turn left, following the road over Rothay Bridge and on to Clappersgate; turn left again over Brathay Bridge on to the B5286, signposted to Hawkshead. Follow this road for about a mile, on the right there is a directional sign to the Duck. Turn right, straight up Duck Hill and we are on the crossroads at the top. |
