A hub for culture and arts in the Kirkcaldy area, the Kirkcaldy Galleries features a museum, art gallery, library, family history room and lovely café overlooking the war memorial gardens in the town. Thanks to a £2.5 million revamp that has included the refurbishment of the war memorial, everything feels fresh and tip-top and the space is perfect for an inclement day when you fancy finding out more about the town. In the gallery the upstairs floor boasts a wonderful range of work from the 18th century to the present day. Highlights include the nationally important collection of work by William McTaggart and Scottish colourist S.J. Peploe. Also on show are paintings by more contemporary artists including Jack Vettriano. The museum features exhibtions themed around pottery, coal mining and linoleum, all of which have played an important part in the history of the town.
