Whether you've been married five years or 50, it's great to acknowledge your time together and what better way to celebrate than checking in to a fabulous hotel? From treehouses for your fifth year (it represents wood!) to a diamond escape on a private island at 60, read on to discover where to book for a lifetime of romance.
Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa

Fifth wedding anniversary: The fifth anniversary is traditionally represented by wood, which is, frankly, a great excuse to book a night at one of Chewton Glen's new Treehouse Suites. Set in the New Forest National Park, Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa is a perfectly pleasant picture-postcard country house hotel but its treehouses, which lie on stilts in the canopy of a peaceful wood-clad valley and have breakfast delivered in a hamper each morning, are some of the most exciting accommodation in the UK right now.

Tuddenham Mill

Tenth wedding anniversary: Tuddenham Mill Hotel in Suffolk is one of those places that ticks all the boxes: great location (in a converted mill next to a pretty stream), gorgeous bedrooms (with original features like exposed beams yet furnished in a contemporary style with standalone tubs) and the sort of food that people travel from miles around to sample (charred mackerel, clams and rock samphire, anyone?). In short, this is the perfect weekend break destination and a suitably special spot for a tenth year knees up.

Hambleton Hall

Fifteenth wedding anniversary: Overlooking a lake and with one of the best sommelier's in the business, Hambleton Hall in Rutland, Leicestershire is a knockout country house hotel. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want to celebrate at this gorgeous getaway where Noel Coward used to hangout and whose restaurant is Michelin-starred – depending on the season, you might be dining on partridge, woodcock or grouse. The gardens are so pretty you'll want to spend an afternoon exploring them, but this might lose out to other distractions like tennis, swimming, cycling and sailing on Rutland Water.

Chilston Park Hotel

Ruby wedding anniversary: You're clocking an impressive figure by now: 40 years of married bliss (!) deserves some serious celebration. Chilston Park, a Grade 1 listed red brick mansion in 23 acres of countryside in Kent, is spot on. The interiors are as impressive as the façade, think chandeliers, ornate fireplaces, a grand dining room and drawing room to retire to for a glass of brandy after a six-course meal. As this is your ruby wedding anniversary, eschew the modern rooms (beds with soft white duvets, sink-into carpets) and book a manor house suite, which have a four-poster bed, polished wood floors and ruby-coloured walls.
