Culdearn House is a lovely Victorian villa built in 1860, privately owned and is situated in the heart of Speyside. It has retained many original features including marble fireplaces, cornice ceilings and barley twist panelling and has six luxury bedrooms, each individually and elegantly designed. Very much home from home. Dining at Culdearn is an experience with locally sourced fare including excellent Scottish game and seafood. Salmon is smoked in the local smokehouse and our beef is reared from a nearby award winning butcher so traceability from farm to plate is known and with fresh fish from the Moray coast. Culdearn is ideally based for fishing on the nearby River Spey, golf, clay shooting, bird watching, walking, hill and mountain climbing, skiing, castle, steam train and of course whisky, all of which are on our door step. Whisky tours can be arranged at one of the many distilleries in the area all offering a taste for the connoisseur and newcomer alike.
Culdearn House Hotel is part of the following Travel Ideas:
"Balmenach - Culdearn House: In the very heart of glorious Speyside, the Balmenach distillery began its life illicitly in 1801. In fact it wasn’t until 1824 that James MacGregor, a local farmer - and the original founder - decided to licence his "peat shed" as a distillery. In 1922 the McGregor family sold the distillery to United Distillers & Vinters who mothballed Balmenach for five years until it was revived in 1998. This Single Malt is a muscular drink, heavily sherried as a result of time spent in sherry casks. Culdearn House, four and a half miles further up the River Spey, is a lovely privately-owned Victorian villa built in 1860. The hotel with its six luxury bedrooms has retained many of its original features: Victorian fireplaces, corniced ceilings and barley-twist panelled furniture. The hotel will arrange fishing on the River Spey for angling enthusiasts and also whisky tours not just of Balmenach but of all the other distilleries along this famous river."
"A charming six-bedroom Victorian villa in the heart of Speyside makes best use of the surrounding Cairngorms for walking and climbing in the warmer months and snow-sports in winter. The nearby new funicular makes it easy to scale the mountainside through the year to take in the views and, in the colder months, for skiers and snowboarders to access 35 downhill runs."
"Not only ideally positioned for exploring the Cairgorms, the largest Arctic mountain landscape in the British Isles, Culderan House is also on the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail. Visiting in the Cairgorms peaks in mid-winter when the snow-covered mountains are at their most spectacular and those availing themselves of the ski facilities at the top will be glad of a warming dram back at Culdearn House. Set in 0.75 acres of landscaped garden, this elegantly preserved Victorian bolthol offers six luxury en-suite rooms, cosy surroundings and warm hospitality."
