Tranquillity is the essence of the Maison Talbooth hotel, a Victorian country house, which enjoys a superb position on a bluff overlooking the Stour river valley, stretching away to the Mediaeval church at Stratford St Mary. The twelve spacious bedrooms are truly luxurious - each one individually decorated with a sure sense of colour. Breakfast and light meals are available in the hotel and for lunch and dinner guests dine at Le Talbooth, a fine restaurant with an international reputation for excellence, which is a gentle stroll away. Day spa with 3 treatment rooms, swimming pool and tennis court.
Maison Talbooth also has a Spa and Venue:
Maison Talbooth is part of the following Travel Ideas:
"For a healthy, active weekend in attractive rural surroundings it’s hard to beat Maison Talbooth, a converted nineteenth-century gentleman’s dwelling within easy walking distance of Dedham, one of Essex’s prettiest villages. The new outdoor swimming pool is open all year round so no matter how chilly January may prove, you can take a plunge before breakfast and see your breath rise in cold vapour on the waters in front of you. Dinner at Maison Talbooth is taken down by the River Stour at Le Talbooth, one of the best restaurants in the county, but you can enjoy healthy breakfasts and light lunches at the Maison itself in the Garden Room. In between times the hotel can help you hire cycles and canoes to explore the local area and build up an appetite. The essence of an effective detox is not just self-denial but also taking time out to live life at a quieter pace. In this respect Maison Talbooth is a perfect place to unwind and doze on a dark winter afternoon under a not-too-demanding book."
"Maison Talbooth sits on a bluff above the Stour river valley and enjoys the early morning sun that falls on open fields opposite and also some lovely evening sunshine at this time of year. A converted Victorian house in walking distance of lovely Dedham village, the hotel’s views stretch as far as the church of Stratford St Mary, a landscape painted on more than one occasion by John Constable. There are just twelve very spacious bedrooms at Maison Talbooth plus a delightful outdoor swimming pool that is well-protected from any Autumnal winds. Lunch and dinner is taken at Le Talbooth which is a gentle stroll away, although the hotel also runs a shuttle. Once a pair of cottages with their own quayside and lime kiln on the River Stour, Le Talbooth was turned into a first-class restaurant by Gerald Milsom. Its lawns run down to the river and are a lovely place for a pre-prandial drink during the last rays of sunshine."
"Overlooking Dedham Vale, made famous by local lad Constable, Maison Tolbooth should have every family member smiling. Just 12 impeccably designed suites make the hotel feel like your personal playground, complete with lovely garden room restaurant, heated swimming pool with a darling pool house, bubbling hot tub, tennis courts and a day spa with a wide range of treatments. There’s oodles of space for the kids to run around in and the tranquil rural setting allows for those magic moments when you shut your eyes in the sun and can hear a pin drop. Wonderful."
"In the middle of Constable country the atmosphere of the Maison Talbooth is very much that of a private country house. Enjoy a cosy tea together in front of the open fire in the lounge. What can be more romantic than a dip in your own secluded hot tub if you are in one of the principal bedrooms or take a swim in the outdoor heated swimming pool. In the evening, cuddle together on the back seat while you are chauffeur driven to the nearby newly decorated Le Talbooth Restaurant on the banks of the River Stour for a 4-course dinner which includes a red rose for the lady. Extend the romance of the occasion by breakfasting in your room or enjoy sweeping views over Dedham Vale from the Garden Room."
"This is the place to book if you want 24 hours away somewhere romantic and tranquil that won’t bankrupt you. All 12 rooms are named after poets at this country retreat and I particularly liked Shakespeare, with its sunken bath and outside garden and hot tub. However, my favourite part of the hotel was the separate pool house with heated outside pool, honesty bar, music and magazines: a little bit of LA in Essex. And dinner just down the road on the terrace at Le Talbooth overlooking the River Stour is a treat, particularly the Monday barbecue night."
