Athelhampton House & Gardens
Athelhampton House is one of the country´s finest 15th century manor houses. The Great Hall was built by Sir William Martyn in 1485 and the west wing is Elizabethan in period and contains the Great Chamber, Library and Wine Cellar. The fine collection of English furniture dates from the Jacobean period to late Victorian. Grade 1 listed gardens with world famous topiary pyramids, fountains and the River Piddle. The dovecote is one of the earliest in Dorset with a capacity for 1200 birds. New for 2006, a gallery in the west wing exhibiting works by the Russian artist Marevna who lived at the house during the 1940s and 50s.
