Lanhydrock
Lanhydrock was originally a 17th century house which was almost totally destroyed in 1881 and is now one of the most fascinating late 19th century houses in England. Although the gatehouse and north wing survived, the rest of the house was rebuilt. The Long Gallery, which was saved from the fire, has a plaster ceiling that depicts scenes from the Old Testament. The interior is a warren of rooms and houses a large collection of theological books and family portraits. The garden features a stunning collection of flowering shrubs and a famous avenue of beech and sycamore trees.
