Godolphin House, a privately owned Tudor and Stuart Grade I mansion was begun in the 14th century, with additions made in later centuries - by the end of the 17th century there were over 100 rooms. The Godolphin family wealth came from the tin industry, which was hit by recession in the 19th century. The dining room has exquisite linen-fold panelling and 16th century carved beams. Fine examples of furniture and tapestry are on display, some original to the house. An extensive range of farm buildings include the original stables.
