Blackwell Golf Club

Blackwell began in 1893 as a nine hole course on the Lord Windsor's Hewell Estate and was extended to 18 holes in 1923, now measuring 6,260 yards, par 70. A small membership allows plenty of time for visitors to an uncrowded course. One unusual feature is a bunker which runs 200 yards down the right hand side of the 12th hole, said to be the longest bunker in golf. Was a regional qualifying course for the Open six times in the 1990s. Both nines have tough finishing holes. The par-three ninth requires a 200-yard carry over a pond to reach the green. A challenging second shot to a narrow sloping green beside the clubhouse and a large beech tree is the requirement on the 18th.
