Acclaimed as one of the finest and most attractive championship golf courses in the county, just five miles north of Leeds city centre, Sand Moor was developed in 1921 by Dr Alister Mackenzie, a founding member of the greens committee. It is situated amid picturesque countryside with panoramic views overlooking Eccup Reservoir, the Harewood Estate, the Dales and, on a clear day, the White Horse of Hambleton Hills in North Yorkshire. Sand Moor has hosted many leading amateur and professional tournaments, among them the European Tour Car Care Plan event won by Nick Faldo.
