Woking Golf Club
Described as an inland links but in reality a typically testing heathland course designed by Tom Simpson and founded in 1893, Woking is short, spanning just 5,957 yards off the yellows, par 70, but is visually attractive. Utmost accuracy from the tees is essential if the trees and heather are to be avoided as each shot requires much careful thought. Several greens are two-tiered and undulating, but they are firm true. Following the back-to-back par fives, the 16th is one of the most memorable holes, a par three over water to a multi-level green that often plays longer than its 156-yards. The course is unfairly overlooked in favour of its better-known neighbours, but has much to offer, in particular a welcoming 1930s style clubhouse
