Royal Liverpool Golf Club
Royal Liverpool was upgraded and modernised by Donald Steel in time for The Open to return to Hoylake for the first time since 1967 in 2006. The site was originally a racecourse on the shores of the Dee with the Welsh hills in the distance. The golf course was built in 1869 and is the second oldest seaside course in England (behind Westward Ho!). Although it is almost flat, the 6,240 yards from the yellow tees pose many problems in the wind that can be both friend and foe. Hoylake has witnessed many great tournaments and most of the world stars through the years have graced the fairways and negotiated the lightening greens.
