Stourhead garden

Stourhead is a fine example of English landscape gardens from the 18th century, re-planted in the 19th century with Conifers, flowering trees and shrubs. Follow a route anti-clockwise around the lake to gradually experience the sequence of arcadian images. There is always another vision to attract the eye: the Temple of Flora, Temple of Apollo, rock bridge or a Gothic rustic cottage and grotto to name but a few. From the late 1700s new plants were introduced - Rhododendrons, scented Azaleas, Copper Beeches and Conifers. In the early 19th century Stourhead housed one of the best collections of Pelargoniums in the world, with over 600 varieties.
