Penshurst Place Gardens

Experience the beauty and tranquillity of Penshurst Place´s enchanting formal garden, a rare surviving example of Elizabethan garden design. It is also one of the oldest gardens in private ownership with records dating back to 1346. Over a mile of yew hedging separates the 11 acre Tudor walled garden into a series of garden rooms. The gardens offer an abundance of variety in form, foliage and bloom throughout the year. From spring flowering bulbs, through fragrant summer roses and exuberant herbaceous borders to mellow orchard fruits. The garden culminates in a vivid blaze of autumnal colour before the winter starkness reveals its original shape and structure.
