Holehird Gardens (The Lakeland Horticultural Society) has been voted on several occasions to be one of the Nation´s Favourite Gardens. 17 acres above Windermere it is truly a garden for all seasons. With specimen trees and shrubs, heathers, bulb displays, extensive rock gardens and screes, there are Alpine display houses and a walled garden with well-stocked borders and also beautiful water gardens. The Society holds three National Collections of Astilbe, Hydrangea and Polystichum. In a superb Lakeland setting, the gardens are unique in being maintained entirely by volunteers and supported by voluntary donations. All pictures on the website have been supplied by Bette Kissack.
