Edinburgh Butterfly & Insect World

Fancy seeing a glowing scorpion display, feeding a snake or doing lunch with some quail? Achieve all three at the Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World which is the world’s longest running exotic butterfly house complete with indoor rain forest positively packed with free flying butterflies. Take a walk through jungle flora past pools seething with tropical fish, tinkling waterfalls and bubbling mud swamps. See if you can spot the marching leaf cutter ant parade and the lizards, snakes and poisonous frogs that lurk beneath the foliage. There are daily animal handling sessions at noon and 3pm which include holding court with a tarantula and meeting a giant millipede. The attraction is based at the huge Dobbies garden centre, where you’ll find plenty of choice for lunch with a restaurant, farm food hall and a deli bar. There is also a picnic area on site.
