The Royal Yacht Britannia

The Royal Yacht Britannia served the royal family for over 40 years, its various international trips notching up a million nautical miles and in the process making it one of the most famous vessels of all time (and I suppose the fact that Diana Princess of Wales and Prince Charles honeymooned on it helped too). Pick up an audio headset to get the most out of the five-deck tour, which will take you past the Queen’s 1950s-style bedroom and inform you of fascinating facts about the exacting standards of the ship’s crew such as that the Burmese Teak decks were scrubbed each and every day and that all work carried out near the Queen’s bedroom had to be done in total silence before 8am. The yacht was much loved by the royals and it’s great fun to pick up titbits about their holidays at sea from the staff working there. A royal day out in Leith Docks.
