Chartwell

Immerse yourself in the rural life of Sir Winston Churchill with a visit to his idyllic family country home Chartwell near Edenbridge in Kent, now operated by the National Trust. Really well versed guides walk you through the rooms, all in period décor from the 1920s and 1930s, which reveal a fascinating insight into the great man’s life. Books, pictures, photographs are left as they were in the rooms years ago and there is even a packet of those famous cigars left on the table. There are also important sound recordings of Churchill and a collection of memorabilia. Visitors get to have a peek inside Churchill’s studio where he did his paintings and the lovely grounds make an ideal spot for strolling in all seasons. For families, there are special kids’ trails to follow and great picnic spots by the lake where children can hunt for the black swans.
