Overview

In the depth of the Shibden Valley near Halifax is the 17th century Shibden Mill Inn. This 'secret gem' has an enviably, secluded location opposite Red Beck, the millstream that provided the vital nourishment to the inn’s corn and spinning mill beginnings. AA 5 Star Inn accommodation and AA 2 Rosette restaurant, highlights the invaluable reputation of the inn as one of the best Halifax hotels.

Where is The Shibden Mill Inn located?

Nestled within the fold of the picturesque Shibden Valley in Halifax. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy the scenic routes providing picture-postcard views of West Yorkshire with its lovely Calderdale valley at the doorstep of the Shibden Mill Inn.

What cuisine is on offer at The Shibden Mill Inn?

There's an extensive menu that covers “grills” such as Gloucester Old Spot pork chop with sage mash, shallot sauce, “traditional” dishes including fish pie with herb and cheese crust and red cabbage and “British bites” which might translate as a Round Green Farm venison pie served with red currant compote. Upstairs in the Grill Room at the heart of the menu is a Charcoal Kopa Oven, producing dishes that are rich with flavours of smoke and fire. Charcoal-grilled steaks, fish and seafood are served here every Friday and Saturday evening.

What makes a meal at The Shibden Mill Inn unique?

The fresh, seasonal meals are created with the best locally available ingredients in Yorkshire along with produce from their very own kitchen garden. Dine in the bar area or the Mill Room throughout the seasons and chill out in the patio garden throughout the warmer months.  The Mill is very proud to be the County Dining Pub of the Year for The Great Pub Guide.

A planned Sunday lunch with friends turned out to be a great day (the weather helped) as the food was fantastic! Four cleaned plates from the order of two Pork, two Beef. There was not one thing left on any plate. The beef cooked to absolute perfection, the Yorkshire Pudding, light crispy with a slight sweetness, the mash an excellent creamy balance, the roasties, crisp on the outside light and fluffy on the inner and then the veg. As a person who does not like butternut squash, I couldn`t get enough of this roasted version with the addition of some very tasty kale. Stealing the black pudding from a friend who had the Pork just added to it. Black Pudding is so wrong but somehow so right with this mix! To top it off extra gravy as required so as not to drown the meal when served. 4 full and impressed people. A nice glass of red and then outside in the sun with a pint of holy grail. A Monty Python beer tempered over burning witches, which just works!

On a cold grey and drab February Saturday I went with a friend to this lovely 17th century Inn was the perfect place to get away and relax for a few hours. We sat near a magnificent real fire. We went for the Set lunch menu at £14.50 for 2 courses or £17.50 for 3. To start, I had grilled mackerel, butternut squash, Whitby crab and sea herbs which really lovely, tasty and the perfect size. Main course was Hake, red cabbage, caramelized lemon & sea herbs. It was great to see Hake on the menu and I was not disappointed with my choice. Having enjoyed the first two courses I gave in and indulged in vanilla creme brûlée with Eccles Cake. It was a delight. I shall certainly come here again.

We had Sunday lunch at the Shibden Mill in October 2016, so it was nice to be able to try the restaurant in the evening and sample the contents of a well-stocked bar. Again, I must state that all the staff were brilliant and very attentive. We shared a starter of local cold meats and bread. Steak was a must for our main; sirloin for my wife and a porterhouse for me. Both steaks were cooked to perfection in the Koba grill (check it out on the hotel website). It truly was the best tasting steak we have had and value for money too. We rounded it all off with a very good cheeseboard.

This is an excellent place to stay - good value for money and with really high standards. The staff are exceptionally well trained and the rooms outstanding. If that wasn't good enough they also have an amazing restaurant, the food was absolutely perfect - great choice - well cooked - beautifully presented - it would be worth eating here even if you weren't staying. They also had 4 really good real ales and a good selection of whisky and gin. And that doesn't bring in the wine selection - I can't wait to go back.

Thrilled to have Shibden Mill inn as our new local after moving to Halifax recently. I've been now for the Shibden shed BBQ, Sunday roast, the lunch time menu and a la carte. I'm looking to try the steak night on Thursdays next! A beautiful 16th century inn in beautiful surroundings we are lucky enough to be able to walk down! Looking forward to my next visit already, Faye

Shibden mill inn is a great pub restaurant and hotel. My husband and I were treated to a great meal last friday as our daughter is a nurse and was working mothering sunday. The meal was something special, not the usual pub grub, desserts to die for.Could recommend to anyone, but book first as it is extremely busy.

Had a fantastic meal here, very busy place. Food was fantastic and the ambience in the grill room made it the best restaurant I have eaten at in terms of atmosphere. There was some confusion and mistakes with our meals but the overall quality made up for it, will definitely visit again

We got the suite and it was well above our expectations, we dined in the Grill and that was one of the best meals we have had for a long time. The staff were great and dare I say it, the food even better. Thanks for the exceptional mini break. We loved it.
