The Horn of Plenty is a small, friendly, independently owned Hotel and Restaurant, where the team will go out of their way to help you enjoy your stay. With 16 bedrooms, 5 acres of gardens and a multi-award winning kitchen, it's a place to relax, enjoy the peace and the stunning views. Dogs welcome!

What makes a stay at The Horn of Plenty unique?

This independently owned small Country House Hotel is the perfect place to escape, relax and wind down. It prides itself on superb food, great rooms and friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant and most of the bedrooms boast stunning views over the Tamar Valley. Ideally located on the Devon/Cornwall border, most of the South West's must-visit places are within an easy hours' drive.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at The Horn of Plenty?

The Horn of Plenty has 16 ensuite bedrooms. Main House rooms are traditional with high ceilings, big windows and a contemporary twist. Original Coach House rooms are country in style, whilst New Coach House rooms are large and contemporary. Most bedrooms have balconies overlooking the Tamar Valley, the walled garden and/ or the Devon/Cornwall countryside.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Tavistock area?

Tavistock is an ancient Stannary town, with a host of independent shops and a newly refurbished Pannier Market. The area is well located for National Trust houses and lovely gardens (Cotehele, Buckland Abbey, The Garden House). Miles of Tamar Valley trails are located at the bottom of the garden, whilst the expanse of Dartmoor is just a 10-minute drive.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

The Horn of Plenty's restaurant has been renowned as one of Devon's finest for over 50 years and boasts 3 AA rosettes for culinary excellence. The original founder was the first lady to ever be awarded a Michelin star! Lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are served daily. Menus are local and seasonal, with 90% of produce sourced from the West Country. Light meals are available in the library. For breakfast, guests can choose from full English, a continental option, or a wide range of other choices. Further afield there are a host of good pubs and restaurants, both in Tavistock and around Dartmoor.

Other Information

The Horn of Plenty is located just outside Tavistock, a 45-minute drive from Exeter and from Plymouth.

We chose the Horn of Plenty as our wedding venue for a couple of reasons 1) The amazing setting, and more importantly, 2) Julie, the owner and Wedding planner. She made us feel so welcome and special from the moment we stepped into the hotel whilst looking for a venue that we knew we wanted to get married there. From that very first meeting, Julie and her team couldn't do enough to ensure our day was perfect in every way. We planned the wedding from Yorkshire and the wedding team were on always hand to answer any questions we had. The actual day was amazing. The food was out of this world. The chef had created a bespoke menu for us earlier in the year where we met with him and discussed our favourite food. He then designed a menu around this and made our favourite foods even better! All of our guests commented on how good the food was and how well ran the day went. I can't recommend The Horn of Plenty enough. It was a day to remember and we will most certainly be going back in years to come.

My husband and I married at the Horn of Plenty June 2019 and it was most wonderful experience. The breathtaking views over the valley and gorgeous venue and beautiful gardens won us over immediately. From the moment we booked, a year before, to the special day the wedding team were in close contact and always quick to reply to emails or phone calls. The day itself was amazing. I can't believe how smoothly it all went and how relaxed I felt. I think this was because everything was very organised leading up to the day. All the recommended services (florist/cake/cheese shop) were incredible and the food was delicious on the day. Thank you to Shirna and the wedding team for making the day so special for us. I wish we could do it all again!

Just returned from my 3rd or maybe even 4th visit to the Horn of Plenty. Once again it didn't disappoint. The staff were welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much bother. The room was lovely and clean and well prepared. After recently being diagnosed with Celiac disease the chef and waiting staff couldn't have been any more attentive. I really could not fault their helpfulness and understanding of the situation and made my first meal out in a while very relaxing. If I could give this place 6 stars out of 5 I would. It's a magical place if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing get away with yummy food.

As always, we had a fabulous couple of days at the Horn of Plenty. It's easy to see why they have so many guests who return again and again. Everything is always just as it should be: a wonderful room, a warm welcome, service that strikes exactly the right note of friendliness and efficiency, the MOST delicious food … why would anyone look elsewhere?

Had a wonderful one night break, had a really excellent dinner, best meal out for a long time, and equally excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed and lovely balcony, lucky enough to have good weather and be able to sit out with a glass of wine and enjoy the wonderful views.

Four of us dined and stayed here last night and were mightily impressed with the standards of the accommodation and cuisine. The staff were as obliging, friendly, and efficient as any we have encountered.

Our first stay at The Horn of Plenty but definitely won't be our last. Staff are so good and can't do enough for you. Location so good for days out, we will be back. Thank you all, Mr & Mrs Marshall
