Sociable, friendly and relaxed they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the day, with a delicious award-winning menu developed by Head Chef Rob Mason and his team. Sip a cocktail on the Terrace, indulge in a three-course evening meal paired with sippable wines or simply relax in the Lounge Bar with a coffee and a natter with a friend. There is no itinerary, no agenda – just space to enjoy the great food, good company and stunning views.
Rob Mason takes the helm in their kitchen, and for good reason. Having worked his way up the ranks in some of the UK’s most innovative establishments, Rob now brings his flair and flavour pairings to 1919 Restaurant. His menu is heartfelt and instinctive, led by using top quality, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.
“It’s all about keeping it simple and letting the ingredients do the talking,” says Rob. “Tasty food full of flavour that all comes together on the plate, combining the best quality meat or fish with indulgent sauces and seasonal produce.”
Pickling and fermenting to preserve food is a big part of Rob’s cooking style, using the nature around him to enhance some truly classic local flavours. The raw garlic growing in the hotel’s front garden is diffused in oil and the flowers are pickled for use to enhance the menu throughout the year. Rob is planning to create a kitchen garden so his team can grow their own vegetables and herbs, which is an exciting part of bringing their 2AA Rosette 1919 Restaurant to the next level.

In the words of the Mad Hatter, it’s always teatime! Served from 3pm daily, their Afternoon Tea is a delight for the senses, served on a three-tiered stand with delicate finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, dainty cakes and homemade pastries – and obviously freshly-brewed tea or coffee, too. Afternoon Tea is a ceremony, and they take it very seriously.
Those looking for a little extra sparkle can add a glass of ‘Reserve’ Brut Moet & Chandon and toast to the occasion.
