Reviews

I have stayed in several lodges around Scotland and this is, without a doubt, the most beautiful, carefully considered and welcoming I have ever been to. Whether you're a keen fisher, keen explorer of Aberdeenshire's finest spots, looking for a family break, a romantic getaway or a luxurious full house party for 20...I think it could just be perfect. I visited with family and friends when we took over the lodge. The wonderful Anna who runs the lodge and cooked for us catered for our every whim. Every dietary request, room detail and general question were dealt with with zero trouble and a smile. The rooms are as lovely and even large than they look in the photos - they've clearly been put together by someone with a strong interior eye who loves design. It's not often I Could go down to breakfast in my outdoor gear and potter past Bob Dylan prints on the way! But the basics have been so well considered as well as its chicness - an abundance of hot water (often so necessary after a long day in the river), never ending supply of tea, coffee and biscuits outside the room, huge wood burner fire, incredibly comfortable beds and plenty of space for suitcases - even a dedicated boot room with lockable gun cupboards and heated boot racks! - were all in place. As soon as we arrived we simply forgot the world outside and felt so spoilt. The food is delicious; fresh and local ingredients, great portions and beautifully presented but not too fussy. I loved the strawberry panacotta and delicious gammon. There is plenty of storage space for any booze you bring up too...necessary for our group! The setting of the lodge is fantastic with space for dogs (you can have yours in your room for an extra fee but the kennels are just outside and in great nic) and truly beautiful views. You don't need to cross a road to spend a glorious day by the river, walking some of the Dee's finest sections and just enjoying life. As a lover of the huge variety in Scotland I tend to enjoy booking new places but am already planning on my next trip to Mill of Dess Lodge and trying to persuade my partner to invite more people with us up there - it has to be shared! Thanks so much to Anna for a fantastic stay. We will be back!

This lodge is just outside Aboyne. We had a large room and large bathroom with bath and shower. Everything is new and cozy. There is free WiFi and a TV 2 comfortable beds. A dog is allowed in the room but they also have a kennel outside. It is very quiet in the area. Aboyne is a base for Ballater, Glen Tanar estate and Balmoral Castle. There are also many golf courses nearby. The breakfast is delicious, tea coffee, juice, eggs salmon or sausages and fresh fruit. The manager and the other lady who arranged the breakfast are very friendly. Really recommended! Translated from Dutch

Beautiful lodge, we had a great weekend staying here while attending a friend's wedding. The lodge is immaculate, cosy and the staff are brilliant. Breakfast was fantastic. Sad that we weren't there another night, we'll definitely be back!
