One of the best accommodations we have ever stayed in and the best on our NC500 tour. The breakfasts were amazing and the staff bent over backward to help and are a real credit to the hotel. The decor in the bedroom and public lounges was stunning but we felt at ease as it was very comfortable. The range of Scottish gun and whisky suited us very well. The location was great as the gorgeous beach was just a mile away. We will be back and this time stay longer. (Thank you for my birthday card, it was very thoughtful).

Lovely lovely experience .. fabulous from the moment you see this place , decor modern yet retro and quirky .. just so comfortable. Fiona lovely hostess .. beds extremely comfortable and breakfasts delicious adaptation of traditional fayre . Will definately return and also to try the bunk barn out of main season .. lovely village ..great little restaraunt TheWhalesTail nearby and the fantastic Smoo Cave not to be missed.

Very pretty place with an awesome breakfast, friendly staff and many things to do in the area. The lounge is very cozy and you can have some drinks there. As the weather was pretty stormy, we enjoyed to stay there, read and relax. There's a little grocery and a gas station right across the street. We liked it there.

Well-appointed rooms, en suite bathrooms. Modern, and clean. Friendly staff. When in Durness, stay here, you will be happy that you did. I like the pub recommended by the staff as well!

Arrival information & directions

Address: Durine, Durness, Lairg, Highland, LairgIV27 4PN, United Kingdom

Mackay’s is located in the heart of Durness, the most northwesterly village on mainland Britain, 100 miles north of Inverness. Croft 103 is found nestled on the shores of Loch Eriboll 6 miles east of Durness. The nearest airport is Inverness, which offers daily flights from the south.

By Car

From Inverness take the A9 north to the Tore roundabout. You may now choose the east coast or the west coast route to continue your journey, both are through stunning scenery but the east coast route is about 30 minutes shorter.

The shortest route follows the A9 to its junction with the B9176 over Struie Hill to Bonar Bridge and then follows the A836 through Lairg. At a point about 2 miles north of Lairg you turn west on to the A838 and from there, let the stunning scenery be your guide as you pass Loch Shin, the mountains of Ben Stack, Arkle and Fionaven, before reaching Laxford Bridge. Turn north once more and head for Durness.

The west coast route, although longer, again passes through superb scenery.

From Tore go west on the A835 towards Garve and then on to Ullapool. Remain on the A835 until you reach Ledmore Junction. There you turn north on to the A837 driving via Scourie to Laxford Bridge and continue on the single track road to Durness.
