Overview

Lainston House is a 17th century luxury hotel with luxurious suites, award-winning dining, bespoke meetings and weddings. Take part in a class at Season Cookery School or experience falconry with the resident birds of prey.

What makes a stay at Lainston House unique?

Nestled within 63 acres of Hampshire parkland, just a stone’s throw from central Winchester, sits the charming 17th century Lainston House. Designed by renowned architect Sir Christopher Wren for Charles II, Lainston House retains the charm and character of its rich country house history, whilst flawlessly balancing the modern comforts of a beautiful boutique hotel. Perfectly suited for business and pleasure, you’ll find luxurious bedrooms, award-winning dining and striking meetings and weddings spaces. Not only that, a converted well house is home to  brand new The Wellhouse restaurant bringing a year-round, unique food, drink and social experience to Hampshire, celebrating the simplicity of wood-fired ovens and smokers, where guests are able to eat in the historic rustic-luxe surroundings inside, or in the idyllic outside setting in the vast kitchen garden. The well house is also the home of Season cookery school where you can try your hand at a range of cookery classes, or perhaps you would like to get up close and personal with birds of prey from the onsite aviary and resident falconer.

What are the rooms and facilities on offer at Lainston House?

Lainston House offers 50 individual bedrooms, with a mixture of standard rooms and suites, all en suite, as well as a range of meeting and events facilities suitable for a host of different occasions.

What can guests enjoy when staying in the Winchester area?

With 63 acres to wander, Lainston House is the perfect location for a long walk, with a beautiful sundial garden and almost mile long avenue of lime trees - its most striking feature. Planted circa 1716 as a 19th century vista, the avenue is the longest line of limes in England. You can take a seat on the specially commissioned arched seating whilst admiring the view back up the avenue, borrow a rug from reception to enjoy a luxury picnic hamper on the lawn or take a seat on the sun-drenched terrace to look out over the avenue. Located just 10 minutes from the historic city centre of Winchester, there is plenty to do and see including the Winchester Cathedral, The Great Hall and Wolesey Castle. Also nearby you’ll find Bombay Sapphire distillery offering a great experience for gin lovers and Paultons Park - the official home of Peppa Pig World! With the river Test, known for plentiful Trout and Grayling, running 10 minutes from the hotel, Lainston is also the epicentre for fly fishing between April and October.

Where can guests enjoy food and drink?

Dining is one of life’s pleasures and there has never been a better time to take a seat at Lainston House with a full array of dining experiences waiting for you. Will you choose the award-winning Avenue restaurant, the informal restaurant The Wellhouse serving woodfired dishes, outdoor terraces when the weather is kind and the cosy Drawing Room just perfect for afternoon tea.
